Q&A Home > C > Confession Father I currently do not have a father of confession for reasons such as language and cultural barriers. I have not been able to build trust with the priest of my church. I have been told to go ahead and confess to him anyway for the sake of confessing and I wholeheartedly followed that advice. But, now it has come to a point where I cannot find it in me to do it anymore. I have always longed for a father of confession who guides me and watches over my spiritual growth. I desire someone who cares for my salvation. I have asked many friends if they know any priests, but I always feel bad asking other priests because I know they are probably too busy with members of their own congregations. What does your grace advise me to do? It is important to have a Confession Father and to seek spiritual guidance on a regular basis. If your relationship with your current confessional father is strained, do not break off the relationship until you feel secure to have developed a strong relationship with a different spiritual father who has agreed to be your guide. Do not leave yourself to be self-guided. It is better to have a spiritual father with whom you may not agree 100%, than to attempt to guide yourself, as this will prove to be disastrous. Continue to pray that God will lead you to someone with whom you can develop a secure and honest relationship, then, ask him if he can be your Confession Father. If he agrees, then decide on times etc., but be determined to grow unto the Lord in submission to your spiritual father's guidance.
