Q&A Home > C > Calendar Regarding the Coptic Calendar, why does the Coptic Church keep a calendar that seems to promote false gods? Is this to simply be part of one's past history as an Egyptian? Of course, I know better than to think that the Coptic Church believes in false gods, but I think this could potentially confuse people who are looking into the Coptic Orthodox Faith. The Julian Calendar has been in use since the last century B.C. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced in the 16th century. The Church is more concerned with the people and events recognized and celebrated throughout the year on these dates according to the Julian Calendar, rather than the name of the calendar and its association with other information, whether good or bad.
