Q&A Home > R > Readings Besides spiritual readings, is it wrong to read other books such as murder mysteries (fiction), classic romance, fantasy books (Harry Potter) for school purposes and pleasure? The danger in reading such books especially those like Harry Potter is that you might eventually become desensitized to the ideas presented in them. For instance, in Harry Potter the so-called 'good guys' are all wizards and normal human beings, called 'muggles', are presented as the 'bad guys'. The Holy Bible teaches us that all sorcery and wizardry is hated by the Lord.
The Holy Bible is the best Book ever compiled. Besides its main purpose, salvation, it has stories of love, wars, sacrifices, romance, wisdom, judgment, etc. While you are reading it as a book of salvation and as the Word of God, start reading it as a story as you read these other books and you will find that it will satisfy all your interests; and will fill you with the Word of God. Also church history and the writings of early church fathers have many stories that can satisfy your interest and will build you up spiritually.
