Before Adam and Eve sinned, did  they live a celibate life? Were they ordained by God to have children anyway, even if they had not sinned?

The Holy Book of Genesis 2:24 states, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and they will become one flesh." Verse 25 states, "The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame."

These two  verses reveal the establishment of  a new family unit. (one flesh) Thus the Divine Intention for husband and wife in these particular verses was monogamy, an inseparable union, not celibacy.Being naked with  no shame refer to being free from shame, being morally innocent which they would lose due to sin.

With the fall of man in  the Holy Book of Genesis 3:16, we are told the human race will continue, "To the woman He said, 'I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." As a sign of Grace in the midst of judgment, we are plainly told the human race would continue. This does not mean that it would begin BUT rather continue.

With hard labor Eve would give birth to children. Her attraction to  the man, and his headship over her would become intimate aspects of her life in which she would experience TROUBLE AND ANGUISH rather than JOY AND BLESSING, as was the case previously before sinning.

Irenaeus c.180 had this to say about Eve, "But Eve was disobedient. For she did not obey when as yet she was a virgin. Although she did, indeed have a husband, Adam, she was nevertheless still a virgin. For in Paradise 'they were both naked and were not ashamed,' insomuch as they had been created a short time previously and had no understanding of the procreation of children. For it is necessary that they should first come TO ADULT AGE and THEN MULTIPLY from that time onward. Having become disobedient she was made the cause of death, both to herself and to the entire human race."

Theophilus c.180 states this regarding whether they would remain celibate, "God had formed Eve into a wife for him out of his rib. He did this lest it would be supposed that one God made the man and another God made the woman. Therefore, He made them both. And God made the woman together with the man, not only so that thereby the MYSTERY of God's sole government might be displayed but also their mutual love might be greater."
