In Matthew 5:22 it is written: "But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire." We also read in Matthew 23:17 that it says: "Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?" and then again in Psalm 14:1 "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.'" They seem to be sending contradictory messages.

In Matthew 5:22, Christ stressed the danger of judgment when one uses slanderous words to hurt someone. In Matthew 23:17, Christ emphasized the erroneous premises under which the scribes and Pharisees were operating.
