What is meant by the verse take your cross and follow me?

As followers and dedicated disciples of Christ, we need to deny ourselves of all worldly enticements, comfort, and temptations and accept our identity as Christians, full of love and compassion, commitment and conviction, and faith, honesty, and courage in sharing the truth in Christ without any hesitation or reluctance. The cross is our glory, strength, and honor even in the face of trials, tribulations, or persecutions. Our calling is to carry our cross daily, not occasionally or when it is convenient.
