Why did God accept Abel’s offering and not Cain’s?

God required a sacrifice of blood. It is important to understand that blood sacrifices in the Old Testament had special meaning because of the symbolic significance of the sacrifice of the Lord on the cross. "And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission" (Hebrew 9:22).
