Q&A Home > P > Punishment Does God punish us? Or is there just a consequence for every action? The Lord Jesus Christ testified, "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work (Revelation 22:12). The Holy Book of Proverbs 13:21 teaches us, "Evil pursues sinners, But to the righteous, good shall be repaid." Every action has a consequence evinced in the discourse by the Lord Jesus Christ when He contrasted the beatitudes with the woes (Luke 6:20-26). There are many examples beginning with Adam and Eve (Genesis 1-3), Noah (6:9-8:22), Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31), Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-5), and many others. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Thus, we ought to live by all the commandments and repent when we break any of them. The Lord God yearns for us to repent and enter His kingdom victoriously. "Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie" (Revelation 22:14-15).
