My Catholic friend once told me that the blood of Christ used to redeem the world is the blood of St. Mary quoting Hebrews 2:14. That is why St. Mary participated in the saving of humanity.

It is important that the Holy Scripture is understood in proper context. The Lord Jesus Christ is God, "Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin Mary, and became man" (Orthodox Creed). Jesus Christ the Lord shared in the blood of all humanity, not only of St. Mary, since we all came from the same source. When Adam and Eve were exiled from heaven, so were we all. Therefore, Christ the Lord gave salvation to all humanity by sharing in our flesh and blood, "Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil" (Hebrews 2:14). St. Mary's love and obedience to God compelled her to submit to His call with complete humility and willingness. For this reason, we refer to St. Mary as the "gate of salvation." She became the vein through which God shared in our human blood and flesh. However, it is only the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and no one else, which He shed upon the holy cross that could redeem the world. Jesus Christ shared in our human flesh and blood to shed it upon the cross as our Redeemer. He, alone, paid the price for our freedom from Satan's wicked hands. Jesus Christ our Savior sanctified us, having taken our humanity, flesh and blood, into Himself to the cross. In return, He gave us His holy body to eat and His precious blood to drink in the Holy Mystery of the Eucharist, so that we may unite with Him and abide in Him forever.
