Do not underestimate nor forget that God has "given us the authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and all the power of the enemy" (Thanksgiving Prayer). Whom you choose to marry is still an important life decision. If you recognize incompatibilities, especially each other's spiritual focus, you should discuss all these serious matters that are revealing to the character of your potential spouse with your spiritual father. Thus, the engagement, betrothal, period is very significant for the couple to understand each other better, and decide if marriage is right for them.
