How can an Orthodox Christian read Genesis and the account of creation? Should it be read as literal truth or as an allegorical manner? Did the Church Fathers take it as literal? Is it Dogma to take the creation account as literal?
How did humans come to exist?
I was recently having a conversation about Genesis and the creation of the Garden of Eden and what the purpose of God creating the tree of knowledge was. The individual was confused as to why was this tree created and Adam and Eve were granted access, if in the end it would bring death to those who ate of it.
If God created everything, how was His spirit there from the beginning? Everyone keeps telling me that He was just there, but I do not understand how He got to be there in the first place? Also how did He just exist, and from what?
If God created the world in six days, why would He need to rest on the seventh day? God is not matter; so why would He need rest?
In what ways does the Church respond to the existence of fossils, which appear to be modern humans' ancestors? Why do we believe that the modern human being is exactly what Adam was if there is fossilized evidence that human-like beings existed before us?
My kids are asking me why did God create insects? Is it ok to play with spiders, for example? Or is it a symbol of the devil (like in Halloween)?
My philosophy professor says that Evolution if not true, at least it is a possibility; while Creationism on the other hand can definitely not be true because if God created the world in six days then the oldest fossils should be from that same time but that they are not. How can we respond to this?
The Genesis account of Creation did not mention and did not record the creatures of other planets or clusters or constellations of galaxies or the milky way or angels, except heaven and its host, that is the sun, moon and stars (Genesis 1 & 2). Why or what is the reason?
The website creation.com says that God created the world in six 24 hour days. Why do we say that the “six days are time periods only” with the reason being that the sun and moon were not created until the fourth day? Could it be possible that the days before then were still actual 24-hour days even before the sun and moon were created? Do we have more proofs that our Coptic Orthodox Church can put forward in relation to the 7 Periods of creation?
Why in Genesis 1:27 does the Holy Bible say that God created male and female, and yet, in Genesis 2:21-22, it say that God created the female from the rib of the male?
