Why do we celebrate the Epiphany Paramoun before the feast and what does it mean?

Before we celebrate the Epiphany Feast, the Church observes certain rites for the Paramoun of the Epiphany. Paramoun is a Greek word meaning, “a single day preparation.” The readings for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are from the month of Tobe 10. When the Paramoun of the Epiphany is more than one day, the Paramoun readings are repeated, including Sunday if it happens to be within these days. The Paramoun Fast is a strict fasting day with abstinence, which also excludes fish. Since the Epiphany Feast falls on a Monday this year, the Paramoun abstinence day is replaced with the preceding Friday because Saturday and Sunday are non-abstaining days. This is the only instance that a third previous day is included in the Paramoun Fast. It is prayed in the annual tune.
