Q&A Home > L > Life Is there a reason why the people in the Old Testament lived MANY hundreds of years, but now the maximum is only one hundred years? Is there anything in the Holy Bible to explain this? Many atmospheric and dietary changes took place after the great flood. There is more harmful radiation and the earth has been in a steady process of decay since that time. Progressively, decay and corruption of the earth has increased even more. Fumes from an assortment of vehicles on the ground, in the waters, and in the air, pesticides, hormones in food, products emitting more radiation, climate changes, epidemics, accidents, stress, wars, chemicals in the air, corruption of many natural resources, over-population, and more destructive forces have added to the significant decrease in the longevity of man's life. The earth will never recover or return to its original pristine state. When the Lord returns, all things will be new.
"Cursed is the ground for your sake" (Genesis 3:17).
