Q&A Home > T > Treasures What is exactly meant by putting all our treasures in heaven where moth does not corrupt? The Holy Gospel of St. Matthew 6:19 states, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal."
This verse and the context of the Holy Gospel of St. Matthew 6:19-24 is about trusting God wholly. When People attach themselves to treasures on earth, they cut themselves off from the Heavenly Treasures and become enslaved to earthly belongings.
Consequently they become entangled with earthly desires leaving no room in their heart for our Lord Jesus Christ. Discipleship to Christ consists of having a heart free to be enslaved to Him alone. This discipleship is manifested in 1) disengaging ourselves from the binding chains of earthly things and concerns, 2) attaching ourselves to God, the One True Treasure, and 3) knowing that the earthly, materialistic things we are in need of and possess, should be used according to God's will and purpose.
