Q&A Home > S > Spiritual Life I have a problem balancing my life between school, family, and worship. While I want to grow spiritually, I discover I am sinning. I also have homework and study to worry about. What can I do? What you are experiencing is a natural process in fighting the temptations of the devil. Once we start growing spiritually the devil tries to make us worry about earthly matters to confuse us. It is wonderful to pray and read the Holy Bible everyday. Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Mt 6:33). This does not mean to become slack in your studies; on the contrary, you have to dedicate time for your studies and ask God to help you at school, to bless your time and help you use it effectively and wisely.
Do not feel discouraged battling the devil but have faith and remember that St. Paul warned us against this powerful enemy "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Eph 6:12). God also showed us the way to resist and conquer this evil. If you keep on praying and reading the word of God you are actually arming yourself against that enemy (Eph 6:13-18). Feeling you are constantly falling proves that you are alert to sin by examining yourself; and that you are conscious of your behavior. This in itself is good as long as you do not fall into hopelessness. Resist temptations and be steadfast in holding onto God. As David the prophet says, "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord" (Ps 31:24).
It is great that you attend the servants preparation class and I am positive it will prepare you to serve the Lord appropriately "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Phil 4:6-7).
