Q&A Home > S > Spiritual Life My life has been entering a downward spiral for the past 2 years or so. I have drifted from God and the church. I no longer dress as a deacon or care to learn hymns, I have very little desire to read the Holy Bible (maybe just the daily readings), and I am very easily angered or filled with jealousy. My service in the church has become a routine, which I often neglect and is not even fruitful. I have lost all inner peace and spirituality. I recognize what is happening, but have not really done anything about it. I want to rekindle the spiritual fire I once had inside of me but I don't know what to do to start it or to maintain it. Let me remind you of a favorite story in the Holy Bible:The Lord Jesus Christ stood still and ordered the man to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord let me see again." The Lord Jesus Christ said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has saved you." Immediately he regained his sight and followed Him, glorifying God and all the people, when they saw it, praised God (Luke 18: 40-43).
While this man was physically blind, there were others who though had eyes, were unable to see THE WAY, because they chose not to see, succumbing to egotism, or materialism, or love of leisure. They had been in a state of spiritual blindness. The hero in this story, though physically unable to see the commotion of the crowd around him, he responded to it; "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by," he was informed. The blind man recognizing the Holy Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, cried out and entreated unto the Lord to help him.
I believe it was the man's faith in Jesus’ healing power that made the Lord stop. Taken aback by this type of faith, Jesus paused, and asked the blind man "what do you want?" Thus He restored to him his sight.
Because this man of faith was then able to see, he did what was obvious: he followed Jesus..
Now that your eyes have been opened, your wavering behavior identified, and your seeking help answered, you should follow the steps of this blind-now–able-to-see man, FOLLOW JESUS. Continue in the path you have always known to be right. The path that the Orthodox faith has taught you to follow, will give light not only to your eyes but will rekindle the warmth in your heart as well.
I want to encourage you to pray with fervor, read your Holy Bible and meditate on its meanings and return whole heartedly to the Church.
