I teach 6th and 7th Grade Sunday School boys. Whenever I tell them to read the Holy Bible, they complain that it is boring, they do not understand it nor do they have time for it. How can we as servants improve such a negative attitude?

You should repeat to them time and time again that God has given us the Holy Bible for our benefit. It is an important letter God has written to each one of us to learn from, to obey, and to get to know Him better. The Holy Bible is true and is supposed to be our guide in our daily life.

Ask them what they do when school feels boring to them. Do they skip it or do they still go for their own long term benefit in the future on earth? The same principle applies to their spiritual life and future destiny in eternity. if they want to grow spiritually, be children of God and inherit His kingdom, it is very important to read the Holy Bible.

At this age boys are very interested in action figures and heroes. As a means of encouraging them to read the Holy Bible, choose biblical heroes that they can relate to and read to them from the Bible about those heroes. For example, talk to them very briefly about Joshua and then ask them questions about who he is, who had chosen him to be a leader after Moses, how he prepared to invade the land by sending spies, and so on. Do not give them complete answers but give them as a homework assignement for the week to find the answers in the first two chapters of the Holy Book of Joshua. The main point here is to make them eager to read the Holy Bible and find out about the answers themselves. The following week you can either continue with the same book or choose another person like Gideon, David, Jonathan, Joseph, Moses, St. Paul while assigning them the exact chapters they should be reading. As they start to respond to this way you can increase the number of chapters you give them to read till you reach a chapter/day.

Another point is you need to talk to their parents about it. They should encourage their kids to read the Holy Bible and make an effort to dedicate some time daily to read it with them.
