Q&A Home > A > Angels Are our guardian angels with us all the time?
In the homily by St. Shenouda the Archimandrite, which is read in the First Hour of the Day of Monday of the Holy Pascha, he describes the roles of our guardian angels and their incessant presence with us, saying,
"Brethren, if we want to escape God's punishment and find mercy in His eyes, let us sit every evening alone by ourselves and search our souls for what we presented to our guardian angel to offer to the Lord. Again, as the night goes by and a new day dawns and light prevails, let us search ourselves to know what we presented to our companion angel to offer to the Lord. Let it be beyond a doubt that everyone of us—male or female—young or old, who was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit has been assigned to a designated angel until the day of his death to report to Him everyday what his assigned individual has done by day or by night."
In the Holy book of Tobit, Archangel Raphael reveals the truth about his angelic role as a companion who carried Tobit's prayers to the Lord, and asserts:
"Therefore, I reveal the truth to you, and I will not hide the explanation from you. When you prayed with tears, and buried the dead, and left behind your dinner, and hid the dead by day in your house, and buried them by night: I offered your prayer to the Lord ... I am Raphael, one of the seven who stand before the Lord .... Peace be to you, fear not ..... For when I was with you, I was there by the will of God" (Tobit 12:11-18).
Therefore, we as humans are comforted by the presence and protection of our appointed guardian angels.
