Q&A Home > P > Priesthood What seminaries prepare laypersons for ordination in the Coptic Church? Any in Florida? The Coptic Church has theological schools in the cities of New Jersey and Los Angeles. Check from .http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Aegean/9944/ more information about them.
There is also a Theological Seminary Program offered by our Southern Diocese twice a year (May and September). For more information check http://www.suscopts.org/seminary/.
Attending any of the seminaries does not necessarily make one eligible for priesthood. A layperson in the Coptic Church does not apply for ordination into the priesthood but has to be called; because our church follows the way our Lord Jesus Christ called His disciples and apostles. The person could be called by the Pope or a bishop or could be nominated by a congregation to be considered for priesthood and has to have the approval of the bishop in charge.
