In addition to offering sacrifices for atonement, why had the Jews to offer those for peace?

The word peace here does not mean peace verses war but peace and fellowship with God. The peace offering was a voluntary offering that expressed fellowship between the worshiper and God. There were three types:

1) Thanksgiving offering which expresses gratitude for an unexpected blessing.
2) Votive offering which expresses gratitude for a blessing granted when a vow had been made while asking for the blessing
3) Freewill offering which expresses gratitude to God without regard of any specific blessing.
