Q&A Home > M > Messiah Many prophecies in the Old Testament reveal that the Messiah will be "called" 'Mighty God' 'God-with-us' and 'The Lord Our righteousness”. But how do we know that these prophecies mean the Messiah will be 'Mighty God'? The prophecies state that He will/shall be "called" God and not that he "will be" God? "And His name shall be called" that is, his attributes shall be such as to make all these applications appropriate descriptions of his power and work. To be called, and to be, in the Hebrew language , often mean the same thing. The word 'wayiqraa' (Heb 7121) may possibly mean, 'Yahweh' shall call him. Such a use of a verb is not uncommon in Isaiah. `One calls him,' is, according to the usage in Isaiah, as to say, he will justly bear this name; or simply, he will be.
If you continue on to the Holy Book of Isaiah 9:7, "Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this."
This Prince, has all power both in heaven and in earth, He has a government and his government increases, extending more and more daily, and will continue so till all things are put under his feet. His kingdom is ordered, every act of government regulated according to wisdom and goodness; is established so securely as not to be overthrown; and administered in judgment and justice. His reign as a prince of peace, in extending and promoting peace, shall be unlimited, He should reign forever. This description is not of one who is wrongfully called Mighty God but is of the True God.
