Q&A Home > L > Litany of the Fathers In the Divine Liturgy book on p.169 after the prayer for the Fathers it reads "And those who rightly DIVIDE the word of truth with him..." is this correct? Can you please clarify the meaning ‘divide’? St. Paul says, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim 2:15). So those who rightly divide the word of truth are those who continue in the true doctrine, and teach it to others. Therefore, the role of priests is to help bishops in "giving each his portion of food in due season" milk to babes, meat to the full grown, comfort to the disconsolate, reproof to the irregular and careless; finding out about the necessities of their hearers, and meeting those necessities.
