Q&A Home > G > Good Deeds The Holy Bible tells us to do good things in secret but personally I feel encouraged and inspired to be better when I see other people do great things. I understand that the Bible tells us not to publicize our good deeds so it won't be for our glory, but I think that the world really needs more people to inspire and encourage others by actions and not just words. Am I wrong? Our Lord Jesus Christ is not saying to not do good works in public, but rather to not publicize good works for the sake of a posture of self-righteousness, for the good works alone of a devout Christian ought only to witness to the glory of God. Actually, many people all over the world have been evangelized by the numerous charitable works of many Christians. Mother Theresa is an example of one of the most famous women in the world that achieved this virtue and influenced many believers and nonbelievers. Multitudes of people from all over the world, from the literate to the illiterate and from kings to paupers, have learned about Christianity through her works and not by her sermons of evangelism.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
