Why do we call Jesus, “the Son of David” from the tribe of Judah? Jesus is the Son of God, so what does it mean that He is the Son of David? Does it mean that St. Mary is from the family of David, or is it St. Joseph? (But Jesus is not really related to St. Joseph?)

"Son of David" is a Messianic title. David is the son of Abraham, and Abraham is the son of Adam, and Adam is the son of God. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Son of Man. Christ Jesus was the long-awaited Redeemer and Savior of the world. From our fathers Adam to Abraham to David, God promised that from their seed, the Deliverer would come to restore humanity's relationship with God as His children and bestow peace between heaven and earth where enmity once existed. Thus, the Lord kept His promise. The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew provides the legal lineage as proof to the Jews of Christ's legal claim to the throne of Davidthe human ancestor of Christ. From the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the royal lineage is provided, as proof to the Gentiles. St. Mary and St. Joseph were related. However, because lineage is generally from the heritage of the father, both St. Mary and St. Joseph can be traced back to David the Prophet.
