Could you please explain: "against such there is no law" (Galatians 5:23)?

This verse states: "...gentleness, self-control, against such is no law."

I would like you to reread the chapter in its entirety. The "yoke of bondage" mentioned in verse 1 is the Law. It mistakes rules and regulations for God who produced the Law.

The Law necessitates:

1. Circumcision as a prerequisite (verse 2)



2. An obligation to perfectly obey the Whole Law (verse 3)



3. Justification by the Law (verse 4) which ensures continuing bondage to sin (verse 1).



4. Bondage to the flesh --the drive of sinful passions.



5. Alienation from the Lord Jesus Christ and from Grace. (verse 4) the Lord Jesus Christ calls this "labor" and being "heavy laden" (Matthew 11:28).

In contrast, the Lord Jesus Christ's yoke is totally different in nature. It is life in the Spirit ( later in the chapter, St. Paul addresses  the  Fruit of the Spirit) and it includes:

1. Regeneration by baptism which brings about  the renewal of the complete person in the Lord, and  circumcision of the heart. (Galatians 3:27).



2. Obedience to the Lord Jesus and growth in perfection (Matthew 5:48).



3. Justification by Grace, God's righteousness becomes ours.



4. Liberty (verse 1) from the bondage of sin.



5. Dependence upon the Spirit (verse 5) and access to the perfect and glorified humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ.



6. Union with the Lord Jesus and the Grace of God. The Lord Jesus Christ calls his "yoke" rest, because it is "easy" and "light." (Matthew 11:30)

This chapter tells us that believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, entails faith working through love (verse 6). Those who, hindered by legalism, (verse 7) stop short of love, and miss the message of the Cross (verse 11). For by His death the Lord Jesus Christ abolished the Law and by His Holy Resurrection granted us son ship to the Father.

Having broken the bonds of the Law, our Lord Jesus Christ opened the gate wide for the Holy Spirit to live in us.  Life in the Spirit enhances faith and love, and the latter two enriches the former producing Fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of Love allows us to administer correction with "gentleness" There is a big difference between gentle chastisement and bitter gossip. The latter is a vice referred to along with many other “works of the flesh” in verses13 to 21; whereas the former is a fruit of the Spirit.

Again I reiterate that it is important to read the Holy Bible contextually and wholly, not in verses. Only in this way can we gain true understanding of what the Holy Scripture wants to teach us.
