Q&A Home > F > Future Is it wrong or against union with God to think of and hence make plans for the future? In the Holy Book of Jeremiah 29:11 we are given a reference to future anticipation given by the Lord Himself, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."
Our future is to look forward to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning His Kingdom.
Other than this, the Lord Jesus Christ should be the center of our lives today and in the present in which we live. If we live in His Will He will take care of our future.
Planning how to read the Holy Bible in one year, evangelizing your next-door neighbor, or organizing an upcoming feast day in the church is devotion to God. Be preoccupied with the work of God and you will oblige Him to be preoccupied with fulfilling His promises to you. Simply wanting a day to be over and wondering what the next day will unfold, only encourages "worrying" about the future. We should live each day to its fullest, saying with the psalmist, "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."
We are specifically told in the Holy Gospel of St. Matthew "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today" (Matthew 6:34).
