Q&A Home > F > Forty Days Memorial What does the 40th day after a person's death represent? Why is it so special? When I asked, I was told that the 40th has no significance, it's just a tradition. Although the memorials of the forty days and the three days following the repose of a believer did not originate in the Judeo-Christian rituals, these memorials have become symbolically significant in our times for which the church incorporated a spiritual benefit replacing the former ancient mythological customs. The forty days following the death of an individual remind us of the forty days our Lord Jesus Christ spent on earth after His resurrection in which He ascended into heaven where He sat at the right hand of His Father.
