Q&A Home > E > Elect Who exactly are 'the elect'? The elect are the few who accept the Christian faith, believing in our Lord Jesus Christ as the Savior, and receiving the divine grace that enables them to enjoy His salvation as chosen ones. Some choose to follow the Lord by their own free will; while others reject that free gift. Those who would not receive him are blinded; having shut their eyes to the light leading to eternal life.
In the early church, the term Elect was sometimes applied to the whole body of baptized Christians, the highest class of catechumens elected to baptism and to the newly baptized.
